Discovered busking on the streets of London, Robbie grew up listening to and being inspired by artists like James Taylor, Bob Dylan and The Beatles. Music runs deep in Robbie’s veins and he’s been singing and playing guitar from a very early age.Robbie has built a large international fan base of9,000 Facebook fans and 500,000 YouTube channel views. His live shows have been positively reviewed in The Times, Evening Standard and The Telegraph. His former single ‘When I Believe’ was chosen as Record of the Day’s ‘Record of the Day’ and his first air played song ‘Oh Alaska’ made the finals of the International Songwriting Competition in Nashville.
Clear from the off that Robbie Boyd comes musically from somewhere else, a time where I’m told pop was more creditable even being described as beguiling. Certainly ‘I Want You To Stay’ is a heavyweight dose of positive pop, not akin to such glowing sensibilities, I simply offer that it’s a solid and amicable, the entertaining start continues with ‘Before It Falls’ the song-writing skills of Robbie are in evidence; described as “drenched in sunny nostalgia” sums up the upbeat pop, if only there were more beach parties under a never setting sun and deep blue sea, then it’s the aforementioned ‘Oh Alaska’ again of worth. But hand on heart, ‘Red Queen’ is a stronger song than it’s immediate predecessor.
All the time spent entertaining the masses, have served Robbie well, live he convinces (Bush Hall review), but it is the ‘Painted Sky EP’ that concerns, a release that showcases Robbie Boyd’s songwriting talents as most would expect, but the quality shines in patches on this above average release. A very nice marker, that suggests a lot more to come. 7.7/10
