Newcomers Seasonal hail from Guildford, UK and play a pop-rock reminiscent of Deaf Havana and Jimmy Eat World. With their recently released debut EP’s title ‘Bloom’ chosen to represent the new beginning for the quartet, vocalist/bassist of Seasonal, Matt Truseler gives an insight into it’s content: “Lyrically we take a very honest approach. The songs on this EP are all about personal experiences from our lives and feelings. We wanted to avoid having songs with generic lyrics that although anyone could relate to, do not have a personal connection to us: a balance between, what is relatable for the listener, without losing the meaning of each track for us.” The band are here to take the A to Z interview to give a further insight into who they are…
A Song Which Made You Want To Make Music: Jimmy Eat World – Blister
Best Album Ever Written: Jimmy Eat World – Clarity
Craziest Moment You’ve Experienced In The Band: My friend Adam asked Matt how he knew me and Max a couple hours after watching our set at Scala. I think that’s more funny than crazy though.
Deepest Lyrics One Of Your Songs Features: Homewards lyrics are pretty deep. They’re about a childhood friend losing their life.
Easiest Song You Wrote: Headphones definitely came together pretty quickly.
Favourite Show You’ve Ever Played: The first hometown show we played with Muncie Girls and Best of Enemies at The Boileroom in Guildford was awesome.
Guest You’d Most Like To Feature On A Your Record: Jim Adkins. No question.
Happiest Moment In You’ve Experienced In The Band: Probably either the turnout we got for our first hometown show, or getting a review in Kerrang! so early for a band was also a highlight.
Interesting Fact About One Of Your Members: Max was one of the original members of the band Polar. We’re a bit of a change of scene.
Jokes You Have In The Band: Fetty Wap. Nuff said.
Kicking Off Your Set Is Best With Which Song: This new jam we’ve been playing recently. Come check it out.
Longest Distance You’ve Travelled To Play A Show: I think only 60 or so miles currently. Heading further afield soon!
Most Inspiring Musician You’ve Ever Experienced: I saw Michael Jackson live as a kid. It was pretty lifechanging.
New Band You’d Recommend: I’d like to recommend a few! A Will Away, Have Mercy, Best of Enemies. All have amazing tunes.
Opening For This Band Would Be Ideal: Jimmy Eat World
Place You’d Most Like To Tour: USA
Quote That You’d Like To Pass On To Readers: ”Fuck or be fucked.” Geoff.
Reason For The Title Of Your Recent/Forthcoming Release: We called our debut EP ‘Bloom’ as it’s an introductory word that worked with the band name.
See Us Live At: The Cave, Addlestone 29th June; Surya, London 25th August. Dates in between TBA soon on socials.
The Old Days Of Music Were Better Than Those Current, do you agree: No, just different.
Unusual Merchandise: What do you propose? I have always thought its strange that people sell hot pants and stuff with their bands name on it. Usually bigger bands at festivals but still… hot pants.
Variations You’d Like To Do On Any Of Your Songs: We’re looking at doing a stripped back acoustic version of a track on the EP. Still haven’t decided which one but this should be coming in a few months.
What Bands Have You Seen Live and Regretted: Metallica and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Do I need to explain?
X-rays or any other treatments needed for band related injuries: Not yet – touch wood.
You could have written any song in history, which would you pick: Michael Jackson – Beat It
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band: Baby Giraffe – excitable but pretty chill otherwise.
