The full Shark Dentist lineup consists of Grady Steele (Vocals / Guitar), Campbell Baum (Vocals / Guitar), Andrew Spiteri (Bass Guitar) and Jamie Staples (Drums), who are still all in their teens.
The band grew up on a shark farm harvesting jelly fish till the tender age of twelve where they parted ways. For the next 6 years, they each encountered many obstacles that simultaneously contributed to the ethic and discipline the band possess today.
Campbell crossed the Irish Sea and settled in Northern Ireland, inhabiting Ronan Keating’s fish bowl. This is where he was exposed to what would be major musical influences, such as Lamb of Cod, Shrimp Bizkit and Fleetwood Mackerel. Meanwhile Jamie had a slightly tougher upbringing, his parents being kept in captivity for nearly a year before being sold to Alcock’s Family Butcher & Fishmongers. Unfortunately Grady was admitted to The Super Evil Aquatic Asylum Inc. after pleading guilty to first-degree pescetarianism and was subdued to intense musical therapy. Andrew was raised by a pool of Lampuki on the fiery testy of the island Malta.
Move forward to November 2014 and Jamie, Andrew and Campbell are discussing a plan to bust Grady out of the asylum. In what newspapers called ‘The Bait Escape’, the three heroics succeeded in freeing their childhood chum, forming the band to keep up Grady’s treatment. Grady, still on the run, makes rare appearances for gigs and recording sessions.
The band currently reside in Camden making outlaw sandwich metal. Whilst spending much of their free time at Quinn’s, Campbell finds time to promote other bands under the name Black Cat White Cat, of which Grady’s DJ collective Floyd Afrika are residents. These nights take place across London (The Victora, Dalston / The Lock Tavern, Camden) and in Bristol (The Crofter’s Rights).
