The band’s stocks have risen rapidly the past 6 months or so, following the release of debut EP ‘Lynx Africa’ in May this year. Receiving great plaudits online from the likes of Pigeons & Planes, Stereogum, The Line Of Best Fit, DIY and more – BBC Radio 1 have also got fully on board with the trio, with Annie Mac naming them as one of her New Names for 2016, and Huw Stephens showing them ceaseless support on his show.
The new single ‘Sober’, released officially this Friday (18/11/16) intertwines dark, brooding drum and bass patterns, with fleeting flashes of intricate synth work.
“’Sober’ was inspired by waking up one morning after a heavy night and hearing in the next bedroom a girl shout at a boy ‘I CAN’T STAND YOU WHEN IM F**KING SOBER’” the band explain. “It’s about debauched drunken nights and flings in which one person wants more than the other does.”
An uncompromising blend of electro pop and hip-hop instrumentals – Strong Asian Mothers’ personality shines through in everything they create, and new single ‘Sober’ is no different.
Speaking on how the track’s instrumentals came to be, the band said: “The beat came out of a period of time when we agreed to all make a beat every day and send it to each other in the evening. This was one of the beats that caught our imagination and the lyrical theme and the beat were married happily ever after!”
Best friends since their early years, Amer Chadha Patel, Josh Stadlen, and Kalim Patel have played in bands together throughout their childhoods – but it’s under Strong Asian Mothers that they have really found their strength.
Their blend of styles and emphatic live show has been making waves on London’s underground gig scene and beyond, with the band the band are about to step firmly in to the limelight.
New single ‘Sober’ continues to showcase their euphoric genre blend, fusing electronic and live elements they seamlessly bridge the gap between gig and club – bringing a sense of party to every occasion.
The band’s next London headline show will be on November 30th, at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen, in London.
Strong Asian Mothers’ live exploits so far this year are also really exciting, having played the BBC Introducing tent at Reading & Leeds earlier this year, along with other very well received festival appearances at Bestival, The Great Escape, By The Sea and Secret Garden Party.
Tying together influences from hip-hop and alternative electronic music, with a live band aesthetic that really sets the band apart from their peers – Strong Asian Mothers are an incredibly exciting proposition.
