NEW RELEASE PLANNED FOR FEBRUARY
Former leader and distinctive vocalist of the legendary Boston alt rock band Come, Thalia Zedek (also of influential acts Uzi and Live Skull) is heading to the UK with a full, new band to promote last year’s bittersweet album “Via”.
I first met Thalia when I interviewed Come back in 1994 at the Embassy Hotel in London, and to say the experience was intense was an understatement.
Poised, serious but heartfelt, when Thalia speaks and when she sings it comes with an embittered ferocity that is off the Beaufort scale, mining a seismic chasm of pain that peaks the Richter scale, and leaves a hot after-glow that out-spices the Scoville scale.
A female in rock easily the equal of Patti Smith ,Lydia Lunch Kim Gordon and Deal, and Yoko Ono, the only difference is the world doesn’t know it and yet truly should. Zedek is a restless spirit, and although in pure bleeding emotion, you would have thought Come’s album “Eleven:Eleven” jointly authored with Codeine’s Chris Brokaw couldn’t be topped, this is truly an Indian summer in Zedek’s career courtesy of the always innovative Thrill Jockey label.
I’m looking forward to watching “Via” played live in intimate surroundings Upstairs at the Garage on Wednesday 12th March, a venue where I last saw Dylan from Earth leave a guitar unmanned on full feedback only to have it picked up by a punter and played within an inch of its life. This gig is sure to be as cobweb blowingly memorable.
There will also be a brand new mini-album by Thalia due for release in February to coincide with a full European tour, more details to follow.
