‘Polly’ the title of The Heartbreaks latest offering. The Morecambe guitar band that has already been well received in this year both live on multiple stages and with their first both intriguing and enjoyable album entitled ‘Funtimes’. The ‘pop’ guitar band have an impressive live following, with a dedicated fanbase that is still growing, with a series of impromptu gigs for Record Store Day that saw them stop the traffic in Berwick St and a monthly ‘Funtimes’ club night in Hoxton that played the music that means so much to the band. To cap it all, first single ‘Delay, Delay’ topped Fly magazine’s poll for the single of the year so far.
A lyric jumped out of the second single, that made me delve further into the Polly’s narrative, the line in question reads “I don’t know you/You don’t know me” its something in the casual delivery. The song stands as testament to the not so distant past when, before the age of social networking, it was easy to lose contact with someone so very close to you, as life got in the way. feel I have to babble about real emotions in songs, not just urban fantasies, real or imagined. if this attract even more to the cause of ‘Funtimes’, so much the better. The 3 tracks, single, studio and instrumental versions of ‘Polly’ looses no momentum gained from ‘Delay Delay’, with more dates due here in the UK and Japan including Fuji Rock festival , this we hope will not be the last you hear from this quartet. One for all the one that got away? 7.75/10
