Tim Burgess’s reinvention from just a lead singer of The Charlatans to writer of an acclaimed book, record label head (O Genesis) and maker of decent solo albums has been a surprising turn.
Fresh from a high profile slot at The Park stage at this year’s Glastonbury comes this remix version of last year’s ‘Oh No I love you’ album and its crammed with treats. What was originally a country tinged affair co-written with Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner, this version turns those tracks into a laidback, mostly electronica based affair mixed by some of the hottest acts bubbling under. Brian Jonestown Massacre and Django Django wade in with scuzzy stoned remixes, Factory Floor reinterpret ‘White’ into a sax led hard punk funk zone while The Horrors psych up ‘The doors of then’ whilst retaining a twee country element. A couple of pointless ambient noodlings aside, this is a pleasant period of time in the company of the newly crowned journey man. 7.2/10 Chris Todd
