Due for release on 1st October is the debut EP ‘Your Love’ by British band Tu Amore, which translates in Italian as my love. Formed in early 2011 they are Ben MacKereth on guitar /vocals, Ashley Morpeth on guitar / vocals, Joe Davies on bass / vocals, and Karl Pickles on drums / percussion. They have toured with bands such as Burn The Fleet, Futures, Your Demise, Hawthorn Heights, and Hildamay.
Their sound is as uncompromising as their lyrics moving from the thunderous opening ‘I’m A Mess’ to the sweetly melodic with a graceful ease. Nothing is wasted and each word, each note, is used with precision to either build the tension or let it flow away. The lyrics are dark and filled with deep emotion dealing with topics such as loss, sorrow, love, jealousy, control, and death. A bleak sounding album but there is also a lighter side to it as the instruments are filled with a longing hopefulness, eager and yearning. ‘Speranza’ features the vocal talents of Mikey Chapman lead singer for Mallory Knox and is a wonderful testament to prideful stoicism in the face of being rejected in love for another. The real star of the EP for me is the soulful ‘Bird In A Cage’ which really shows the emotional eloquence and depth this band is capable of. 8.5/10
