New album, Spring 2018, ‘Party’s Over’
Summer of live includes BBC Introducing Stage headline at Boardmasters
Garage rockers, The Velvet Hands, are the ambitious quartet formed in 2015 at college.
By 2016 they were buzzing, in 2017, they’re blowing up.
‘Games’ is another boisterous offering reminiscent of the very best of early 2000s guitar bands and a rousing two fingered salute to freedom, youth and a defiance in doing your own thing. Ones to watch.” (GigSlutz/This Feeling Track Of The Day)
Working hard to grow organically, this band have released a string of standout DIY singles, backed up by blistering live sets starring two front men, Toby Mitchell and Dan Able, wrestling for the mic, driven by a move-making rhythm section; Sam Hilder (bass) and Louis Willbourne (drums). There’s a tint of Hamburg era Beatles in their charismatic delivery and authentic Carnaby Street swagger, in their effortlessly cool nature.
The Velvet Hands may be fresh out of the traps, but have already been compared to The Damned, The Stones and The Strokes, played shows with landmark live club, This Feeling, been the surprise hit at The Great Escape Festival 20017, and earned a 60 second interview on the BBC Radio 6’s Steve Lamacq show – also BBC London record of the week and interview with Gary Crowley.
‘Games’ is The second single from their debut album, ‘Party’s Over’, slated for release early in 2018 and follows ‘Sick Of Living’, their RSD17 7″ vinyl which not only virtually won Record Store Day, but was subsequently featured on national TV show, ‘Made In Chelsea’.
Firing on all youthful cylinders,The Velvet Hands have art in their heart. Visually complimenting their anthems with collectible sleeves. The cubist punk ‘Sick Of Living’ video was inspired by David Hockney’s polaroid collages. Their energy is making people sit up and take notice. “Never mind the old bollocks. It’s time to pay attention to The Velvet Hands.” says Rebel Noise. Hear hear.

‘Games’ (bootleg) with love from ArtBeat Promo, I took a short clip of the set and reactions when the band played for Mark Beaumont of NME/The Guardian earlier this year and made some new friends.
