“Mind seems to have been scripted to beat the Monday blues with a positive mantra that repeats in the song’s chorus. As the latest preview of their upcoming debut album ‘Nights In Limbo’, it has a radiance and assertiveness that browbeats negativity and encourages you to accept the beauty of your own spirit.“ Dummy
VIMES (Azar Syed & Julian Stetter) have just revealed the video for their first official single release ‘Mind’ released January 22nd 2016 taken from debut album ‘Nights In Limbo’ produced by Jochen Naaf (Xul Zolar, Hundreds) released on February 12th 2016.
The video was directed by Nadia Bedzhanova, Nadia’s previous work has been featured on Dazed Digital, Interview (Russia) and Paper.
Featuring models Bruna and Jaq @ Muse (NYC); Marusya Fomina and Anastasia Tsoy (Moscow); Lena Bush (London) The story of MIND follows an ensemble of protagonists escaping boredom in their neighbourhoods and exploring the cities. Bedzhanova describes the video as such….“The action is happening in three amazing places: New York, Moscow and London; where the heroines end up listening to the same music by inspiring German trio VIMES – either on their headphones in Brooklyn, or in a car stuck in Moscow’s traffic, or on a phone wandering around London suburbs. In this video we were trying to emphasize the theme of international unification of youth.”

VIMES make electronically infused delicate pop songs and their notable releases to date have included ‘Upstairs’, ‘Celestial’ and ‘Ential’, the latter both ending up in The Top 10 tracks most blogged about on Hype Machine and also resulted in remixes for Josef Salvat, a live session with Chilly Gonzales, tour support for Hot Chip and performances at SXSW and The Great Escape.
‘Mind’ is one of the more pop sounding tracks on the album with a big and memorable chorus. The band describe the track as being about, ‘things you despise and still can’t live without, due to the fact you are actually made up of them. It narrates how gazing into the looking glass can reveal weaknesses. The chorus is a complete turnaround and calls out to everything you’d ever want to be, to something or someone flawless.’
The band met by chance in Cologne, Germany whilst working together for a music magazine and a firm friendship was formed based upon a mutual love of music albeit slightly different influences. Azhar came from a rather pop-savvy sphere while Julian was more into the club-scene but they found making music worked together immediately and so VIMES was officially formed in late 2012.
VIMES will be appearing live in the UK in April. Dates to be announced shortly. Their debut album ‘Nights In Limbo’ is released on February 12th 2016.
