What?: Dropping a second EP of their pensive alt-pop in the shape of ‘Dual’ earlier this year, Meadowlark embraced their ability for arena-sized anthemia that we all knew was hidden behind the forlorn exterior to produce something truly incendiary. Announcing the EP with ‘Eyes Wide’, the lead single immediately felt like a band hitting their creative stride. Pinpoint percussive patters, subdued piano arrangements and restrained guitar flourishes meticulously arranged by the duo’s producer Daniel Broadly interwove around Kate McGill’s fluttering vocal. The result, one of the year’s most strikingly melancholic, yet melodic tracks and their best to date. With the promise of delivering their debut album next year and with their vision for the future of the band clearly in focus, 2016 has all the promise of a huge breakthrough for this duo.
