Austin’s White Denim followed 2009’s wonderfully skewed Fits with an extraordinary new record ‘D’, which emerged to a plethora of praise in May this year. The second single to be lifted from ‘D’ is ‘Is and Is and Is’ to be released on September 5. Their previous single ‘Bess St’ saw the band B-Playlisted at 6 Music.
The gently epic ‘Is and Is and Is’ (possibly the perfect White Denim title, mystical yet prosaic) is their attempt at a straightforward narrative. Bruce Springsteen it ain’t, even as it mentions ‘mopping the kitchen floor’, Steve Terebecki’s superb bass playing as expressive as Petralli’s words.
“I like to think I’m developing a more direct approach,” he says, pondering the matter, “But maybe the vocals are just more up front on this record.”
Renowned for being a formidable live presence, the mighty White Denim return to play not only Leeds / Reading and End of the Road festivals, but also play and their biggest UK headline date thus far at Electric Ballroom on Sept 1. For full UK dates, see below –
