13 Albums To Look Out For In 2013
13: Deerhunter TBA
Deerhunter are working on new material to follow the stunning ‘Halcyon Digest’. Time apart after the acclaimed album saw frontman Bradford Cox focus on his side project Atlas Sound, who released the equally impressive ‘Parallax’. Deerhunter will be curating an ATP Festival this summer and have already attracted big names such as Kim Gordon and The Breeders to play the event.
12: Yeah,Yeah,Yeah’s TBA Spring. Who knows what direction the Y,Y,Y’s will take on their 4th album. Last album 2009’s ‘Its Blitz’ was a Peaches esque dance record, whilst earlier material saw Karen O channeling PJ Harvey. Having recently worked with Trent Reznor expect the band to push boundaries yet again.
11: R.Ring TBA spring?
Kelley Deal and Mike Montgomery are set to bring R.Ring to Europe around march for live dates. Brittle, caustic and brilliant R.Ring offer a raw beauty. Expect the as yet untitled debut to be an understated gem.
10: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds ‘Push The Sky Away’ Feb.
15th studio album from Nick Cave & Co follows 2008’s ‘Dig Lazarus Dig!’. Produced by Nick Launey (Arcade Fire, Yeah,Yeah,Yeah’s) and recorded in a 19th century French mansion you can be assured of quality at least.
9: Courtney Love TBA
A single ‘This Is War’ is scheduled for early February and with that title and production credits for James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) it sounds like a return to form for Courtney Love Cobain. Previous solo record ‘Americas Sweetheart’ means Courtney still has something to prove away from Hole, but let’s not forget she CAN do this.
8: The Breeders ‘LSXX’ Summer?
Possibly THE most exciting reissue of 2013, 4ad will be giving The Breeders seminal ‘Last Splash’ album a deluxe re release for it’s 20th anniversary. With demos and rarities included as well as more sumptuous V23 art work & as if that wasn’t exciting enough, that records line up of Kim & Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs and Jim McPherson have reunited to tour the album in full this year.
7: Brody Dalle TBA
Ex Distillers and Spinnerette front woman goes solo. Not much is known about the solo debut of Mrs Josh Homme, but we do know that Garbage’s Shirley Manson has contributed vocals to at least one track. One thing you can certainly count on is that Brody will deliver the goods.
6: Suede ‘Blood Sports’ March
An invigorated Suede have stated that ‘Blood Sports’ their first album for 11 years is about lust ”the endless carnal game of love” with 10 apparently ”furious songs” could this be a return to the bands glory days?
5: David Bowie ‘The Next Day’ March
Produced by Tony Visconti and recorded in secrecy, Bowie almost crashed the Internet when he announced this album AND released a single on his 66th birthday. Expect a frenzy of frothy reviews despite what it actually sounds like, could the rock icon’s first material in a decade really live up to his impeccable past?
4: Throwing Muses ‘Purgatory/Paradise’ Spring?
Free of the shackles of a record label, the new Throwing Muses album is entirely fan funded via Kristin’s Strange Angel subscribers. Set to be a mighty 33 track double album “because their was nobody to say we couldn’t” Throwing Muses have never made a bad record, with complete artistic control I don’t expect they have now.

3: Savages TBA
Savages look set to continue their world domination in 2013. They still haven’t made it as huge as I anticipated but they surely cannot fail when their debut lands. Live they have the material and raw energy to reel you in then blow you away, let’s hope that power has been captured on this record.
2: Queens Of The Stone Age TBA Summer?
Big name guest artists aside (Grohl) the return of Nick Oliveri is a great sign and let’s face it Josh Homme has never actually failed. With headline festival slots acquired expect a big record & a big year for qotsa.
1: My Bloody Valentine TBA Soon?
Finally after a wait of almost two decades it appears we ARE getting a follow up to the bands essential ‘Loveless’ album. It had been hinted at before but on Christmas Eve My Bloody Valentine confirmed that mastering of the new album was completed, will it – can it – live up to the hype?
