Martin Luther King Day Shabbat – We Have A Dream
You’ll never guess how I got this gig. Yes I’m performing before MLK’s lawyer!!
Yeears ago, I once got a call from a yeshiva roommate who lived in Detroit, although we originally met in New Jersey. Antar had just got back from being the rapper Shyne’s Assistant In Jerusalem and he met a woman named Shari Rogers who was creating a film called Shared Legacies.
Thee film showed how Jews and Blacks have been working together since the civil rights era.
Antar always told me how I inspired him to be a rapper. He helped me book my first USA tour in 2008 while we would stay up late snacking at the Yeshiva.
So Antar and Shari met at the Kotel. It was one of those days they Shyne was getting covered by CNN at the Wailing Wall…and yes… it is thee same Shyne who was signed to Puff Daddy and got arrested wit that gun charge alongside Jennifer Lopez
This woman Dr. Shari (a great friend!) brought me to perform at Dilla Day in Detroit where Antar had meshed in for a while after living in Jerusalem. which Shari single-handedly saved this event… and I was able to go on stage and perform with my friend Antar Davidson De Sa. While on stage, Clarence Benjamin Jones comes up after us and thanks us for our performance. This is Martin Luther King’s Lawyer !! He was on stage speaking to 1000+ people about how we need to work together, and I got that special moment because my Yeshiva roomie hooked me up!
After the show, I ended up staying in Busta Rhymes Hotel Room since he didn’t show up. LOL But that is another story 🙂
