We brought 3700 + ini one “room” to hear a Holocaust Survivor. Wanna know how?
about last night
Yesterday morning I took the train to Harlem to meet my friend Sami. We had done a “holocaust room” 14 hours later, a whirlwind had happened last night, we (Adam Swig of Value Culture, Mary Castro, and myself.) brought Sami Steigmann, an 81-year-old Holocaust Survivor based out of Harlem NYC on this thing called “Clubhouse,” an invite drop-in-audio app with group chats up to 5k at a time. Sammy has been speaking for many years and amassed thousands of followers and friends in the Jewish community. But nothing has happened like it did yesterday.
He spoke with crowds as large as 3700+ people at one time, which isn’t even possible at any modern venue. By the time the “room” came to end, Sami amassed 5100 followers and messages from around the world including Doctors in the UAE to lawyers in Saudi Arabia and the director of American History X, Tony Kaye. singing Sami songs on his guitar for two hours.
If you don’t recall American History X, it was a film about a Neo-Nazi movement starring Ed Norton and Edward Furlong.
We had a load of high-profile guests from Eric Weinstein to grammy-winning musician Lisa Loeb (OMG- yes that Lisa Loeb!)
In the middle of all this, Eva Perlman, another Holocaust survivor has joined the room and we then had the 2nd holocaust survivor of the clubhouse. She also has a book you can buy on Amazon about her life! So we had the director of American History X, and two Holocaust survivors in one Clubhouse room having a discussion about Life, Bigotry, and Hope and Discriminiation
If you want to know how Sami felt afterwards… Watch this video here.
