Sydney’s Middle Kids released their sophomore album Today We’re The Greatest to worldwide critical acclaim in March of 2021.

Today We’re The Greatest is the open, uninhibited product of fearless collaboration, adventurous experimentation and extraordinary songwriting. From the first note to the closing title track, Middle Kids have built on the phenomenal foundation of their J-Award, ARIA nominated debut album Lost Friends while exploring new sonic and lyrical  possibilities with every note.

Recording Today We’re The Greatest began in Los Angeles in October 2019 with producer Lars Stalfors (St. Vincent, Soccer Mommy, Cold War Kids), but was finished back home in the midst of lockdown 1.0 in March 2020.  A year later, when the album could finally be released, it received critical praise worldwide. Since the album’s release, Middle Kids have raised their international profile considerably by delivering multiple stellar performances on US late-night television.

They stormed through the lead-single “Questions” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and CBS This Morning and then played album’s stunning piano-led ballad on The Late Late Show With James Corden. Upon release the album was triple j feature album and hit the top 5 of the ARIA Album charts.

QUESTIONS

TODAY WE’RE THE GREATEST

STACKING CHAIRS

“They have a real gift for making melancholic sound euphoric” – NPR

“Middle Kids have succeeded in distilling the essence of optimism, bottling it across 12 tracks of sun kissed vulnerability and coming to the conclusion that life could be much, much worse.” – Clash Magazine 8/10

“Middle Kids’ “Cellophane (Brain)” previews the trio’s upcoming album Today We’re The Greatest in grand fashion: an emotionally affecting distorted guitar is used to showcase inner struggle, just as the song twists and turns to an ultimate crescendo.” BILLBOARD

“This is what Middle Kids do best. Big songs about big emotions.” – Under The Radar

In May 2021, the band were also able to take advantage of our brief respite from COVID limitations to play euphoric and powerful shows to sold out concert-halls up and down the east coast of Australia. Taking in the beautiful surrounds of the Melbourne Recital Centre,  Sydney Recital Hall, and Queensland Performing Arts Centre in support of their incredible new album. The plan (of course) was to return at the end of 2021 to bigger rooms yet – alas while rooms were booked, those shows were never able to be announced.

In a challenging time and overcoming a number of difficult hurdles, Middle Kids will be one of the first Australia-based bands to tour the USA since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
