Today, Vancouver artist EKKSTACY continues his massive rise this year, sharing the new single ‘it only gets worse, i promise‘. Poised as one of 2021’s most exciting artists, the latest track from the 19-year-old trades the sparse and intimate instrumentation for an upbeat indie/post-punk anthem, featuring his signature echoey vocals and a fully-charged, energised chorus.
‘it only gets worse, i promise’ was Speaking on the track, EKKSTACY shares: ‘‘it only gets worse, i promise’ is about my thought process when I’m drunk, I talk to myself a lot but when most people hear it they’ll think I’m talking about a girl.’
Produced by Mangetsu, the new single follows last month’s ‘in love’, which garnered over 500K Spotify streams and over 200K video views in two weeks, and is the second single lifted from his forthcoming debut album Negative, out November 12. Following praise from the likes of The Fader, Pigeons & Planes and Exclaim, EKKSTACY was one of only four artists selected to be part of Spotify’s inaugural Fresh Finds initiative alongside Unusual Demont, Wallice and Julia Wolf, releasing his song f*ck everything! (feat. The Drums)’. It was Spotify’s first-ever partnership program for independent artists, centered around the Fresh Finds playlist, with its focus on helping developing artists learn, collaborate, and grow, by giving them the tools for longterm, sustained career success.
19-year-old Vancouver artist EKKSTACY already has fans eagerly awaiting his next move. His singles ‘i walk this earth all by myself’ and ‘uncomparable’ established his promise and his unique sound, influenced by Elliott Smith, Bon Iver, and The Drums. EKKSTACY always wanted to be an artist, but lacked confidence; however after a rough couple of years that included substance abuse and his parents’ divorce, he found solace in music. With a unique sonic world he describes as a fuse of indie, post punk and synth wave, EKKSTACY is one of the most exciting young artists to watch in the world right now, and is poised for a huge year ahead.
