New York, NY (October 4, 2021) – Acclaimed Chilean artist Mon Laferte announced today the October 29 release of 1940 Carmen via Universal Music Mexico. The announcement comes along with the release of the first single, “Algo Es Mejor.”

1940 Carmen was written and recorded while she was in Los Angeles from March to July 2021, and named after the address of the Airbnb where she stayed. All of the tracks were written, composed, and produced by Mon and include her first foray singing in English. 1940 Carmen is a snapshot of four months in her life in the US, which resulted in a new album, her return to live performances, and a pregnancy.

“Algo Es Mejor” (Something Is Better) displays the golden aura of positivity that shines over the entire album. “I wrote this song while driving through Malibu, dreaming of getting pregnant,” says Laferte. “I was very happy to be brave and embrace motherhood. The Pacific Ocean always inspires me. California landscapes are very much like my hometown. As I looked out the window I felt very free! Fulfilled and happy! Life is beautiful, I think many times it is just a matter of attitude. Something in me definitely changed.”

Mon Laferte is currently on a national tour, performing to sold-out audiences in Sacramento, Riverside, Anaheim, San Diego, and Los Angeles, and was recently announced as the headliner at the nighttime event, Noche De Los Muertos celebrating Día de Los Muertos at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles on October 30 (Tickets on sale now HERE).

1940 Carmen follows the release of SEIS in April, which garnered Mon four Latin Grammy Award nominations last week for ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Best Pop Song’, ‘Best Singer-Songwriter Album’ and ‘Best Regional Song’.

Billboard calls SEIS, “Vulnerable and commanding” and VICE says, “It gives you chills, requiring no knowledge of Spanish to communicate its emotion… a gut-stomping triumph.” BBC Music says, “SEIS is her most intimate and courageous yet; tackling complex topics such as misogyny, repression, and injustice, inspired by her lived experiences.” Los Angeles Times said “Seis, a stirring paean to the world of regional Mexican music” and The New Yorker said, “Laferte channels [Chavela] Vargas’s ability to convey both fierce grit and shattered vulnerability.”  The album was also praised by The New York Times, NPR, Billboard, PAPER, AllMusic, and countless others.
