Ashe has shared her new music video for ‘Not Mad Anymore’, taken from her critically acclaimed debut album Ashlyn, out now on Mom + Pop Music, stream it HERE.
Directed by Jason Lester who has collaborated with Ashe on her previous videos, the clip pays homage to the legendary film musicals of the 40’s and 50’s. Taking a page from the iconic Judy Garland in Get Happy, Ashe is seen mastering a delicate interpretative/tap dancing sequence, flocked by 4 dancers accompanying her. Striking a balance of nostalgia with a modern twist, Ashe is tied to traditionalist old Hollywood visuals, coupled with a heavily influenced Laurel Canyon sound and style.
The confessional ’Not Mad Anymore’ lyrically makes peace with overcoming a strained relationship, as Ashe sings “I’m not mad anymore about the madness, we didn’t have any more of the magic.” The piano-based arrangement comes to life with Ashe’s authentic songwriting and honest, inspired delivery. Commenting on the song, Ashe explains, “It’s that acceptance phase of grieving when you’re like: ‘Okay. That’s how that went. I’m okay. I made it out and I’m better for it.’ Similar to ‘Moral Of The Story,’ but a little bit louder of a record.”
