Today sees Welsh-born, London-based rising star Hana Lili share her debut EP Flowers Die In The Summer, a huge statement of intent from the 21-year-old, entirely self-produced and released independently. The EP features new single ‘Don’t Try To Call Me’, as well as previous singles ‘Stay’ and ‘Red Hearts’, and new single ‘Flowers’, released today with its music video.
Like many of her peers, quarantine provided the ideal environment for Hana to buckle down into her songwriting within the sanctum of her own bedroom, emerging from the pandemic armed with a stunning 4-track debut EP Flowers Die In The Summer. Spearheaded by Hana’s unique ear for melody, rugged guitar chords, vulnerable lyrics, and nostalgic noughties-esque pop production, the homespun EP certifies the 21-year-old as a vital new voice within the bedroom pop movement.
Speaking about the EP, Hana says “I wrote continuously in 2020, I went back to my roots, right back to the beginning, just me in the bedroom, the guitar and my some ideas. Every day blended into one, it was a cathartic process in isolation – self discovery, indulgence, pain, sadness, euphoria and happiness – and on the other side I came out with a bag full of songs.”
Today’s new single ‘Flowers’ is next in line of a run of brilliant singles from Hana, following previous singles ‘Stay’, ‘Don’t Try To Call Me’ and ‘Red Hearts’, released earlier this summer, which saw Hana deliver a dreamy introduction to her sonic world, combining intimate, confessional lyrics over immaculate self-taught production. With early press support from The Guardian, Notion, Dummy, i-D, Clash, Dork and The Line of Best Fit and an unexpected play on this year’s series of Love Island, Hana Lili is your latest artist to watch.
