Single Premiere: Makar – “Love and Confusion”

Indie rock band Makar is named after the 15th Scottish term for “poet” and the acoustic guitar and piano-led duo have certainly been living up to their namesake. Self-dubbed as a “…dark and groovy little New York band,” Makar came into being in 2002 by husband and wife Andrea DeAngelis (vocals, guitar) and Mark Purnell (vocals, piano). The band got started when DeAngelis and Purnell started daring each other to write their own material. Eventually they were joined by Vicente Viray (guitarist), Dan Coates (bassist) and Jorge Arias (drummer), who went on to round out their spontaneous blue-infused sound.

MAKAR has been gathering momentum in the New York live scene with their performances at such renowned clubs as Luna Lounge, CBCBs gallery, Knitting Factory and Pianos. So that when they released their debut album 99 Cent Dreams they were already on a lot of people’s radar, even garnering rave reviews from the Windy City Times who hailed them as “a breath of fresh air” as well as being voted as 2015’s Top Ten Guitar Bands alongside MGMT, Vampire Weekend and Ra Ra Riot while their second album Funeral Genius earned them a top 10 spot on The Deli Magazine’s Top 300 Best NYC Indie bands.

Today we are premiering the band’s latest single “Love and Confusion,” a track from their upcoming album, Fancy Hercules, set to be released November 19.

With the release of their latest single “Love and Confusion,” the band ramps up their positive vibes for a mesmerizing release of feel-good energy and vocal harmonies and contagious vibes. Right when Andrea’s vocals comes in, the flavorful pop notes were noticeable right from the start. I greatly enjoyed the uplifting sound coming from the track.

This song shows a more fun-loving side to the band as they let their hair down and just let loose for a great acoustic sound. If “Love and Confusion” is any indicator, listeners are in for a real treat once their third album Fancy Hercules is released. In the meantime, feel free to spin this track on repeat before the arrival of their next album! 7.5/10
