Dora Jar has today dropped brand new single, ‘It’s Random’. The track is the latest teaser of upcoming EP ‘comfortably in pain’, which is available this Friday and also features latest single ‘Lagoon’ plus fan favourite ‘Scab Song’. Having just toured the US with Billie Eilish – and wrapped 2021 performing alongside the likes of Holly Humberstone, Remi Wolf and The Neighbourhood – Dora will tour the UK next month including a London date at Lafayette on March 17th.

‘It’s Random’, says Dora, “is about feeling aimless and adrift in the absurdity of life. I started writing it the first week of lockdown and finished it when the world turned on again.” Mirroring these last couple of years – and themes on ‘comfortably in pain’ – ‘It’s Random’ “goes from calm and playful to harsh and anxious really fast”…but much like Dora herself, never where you expect.

One of the year’s most exciting new artists, Dora Jar is a free spirit with an old soul. The 24-year-old’s formative sound spans influences of bedroom pop, grunge, folk and are held together by Dora’s playful, sometimes-eccentric visual eye, which is equal parts existential as it is in the spirit of Jim Henson. Beneath her elastic sound and eye-catching style, Dora Jar is an artist of deep substance. Half Polish, born in New York but raised in LA, she found particular inspiration after a period in London, where she moved after the tragic passing of her sister Lueza (from whom Dora realised that music was all she wanted to do, and that life was short). Dabbling in magic mushrooms and uploading little snippets of herself playing music to Instagram, she connected with producers like Felix Joseph, Ralph Castelli, Vron, Solomonophonic (and more recently John DeBold on the new project) – with whom Dora crafted her hugely accomplished debut EP, ‘Digital Meadow’. Early co-signs followed from the likes of Billie Eilish, Grimes and Wolf Alice for breakout tracks like ‘Polly’ and ‘Multiply’, before Dora played her first ever live shows late last year (memorably arriving on stage in London whilst carried in a body-bag, to the overture of ‘The Sound of Music’).

Upcoming EP ‘comfortably in pain’ was announced recently alongside ‘Lagoon’, a lyric from which gave the EP its title and was written – says Dora – “from the perspective of a lonely mermaid who craves intimacy.” It’s a project, for Dora, about accepting dark times but not being defined by them; turning pain into art, human connection, and a reminder of what it means to feel alive. Unique and utterly compelling, Dora Jar’s fantastical, explorative but rawly honest pop is full of possibilities (as too, is the symbolism of her alias). “I want to leave the door ajar in my imagination. Let light seep through the crack.”
