Introducing KhakiKid with new single ‘Woodstock’
Introducing
KhakiKid
With new single,
‘Woodstock’
Irish rapper and star on the rise KhakiKid drops new single, ‘Woodstock’, today. Following his early tracks ‘Shlumped Up’ and ‘Cozy’, which have won over a legion of fans already, KhakiKid’s new single showcases his signature tongue-in-cheek observations on the brilliant new track, marking him as one of the most exciting new artists to watch in 2022.
22 year old Abdu Huss aka KhakiKid is an undeniably fresh presence, capturing the essence of summer in his unique sonic world. Bringing Anderson .Paak’s sunny sensibility to mind, KhakiKid skilfully juggles wit and humour with self-deprecating, darker themes. In his own words, “I wrote Woodstock reminiscing of those nights where you hadn’t any plans but by the end of it you’re missing 50 percent of the clothes you left the house with. Even with the memories of your mams mortified face in the morning, you can’t help but look back on those nights with a tinge of nostalgia. I wanted the song to feel like you’re walking home at sunrise, hearing birds chirping and are desperately trying to avoid shameful eye contact with early morning joggers.”
KhakiKid has had a whirlwind of a start to his career – exploding onto the scene less than two years ago, drawing in fans instantly with his alt-style and distinctive tone. Growing up in a large family in Crumlin in Dublin, sharing a room with 3 siblings, there was never a quiet moment. Huss had to grow up a lot quicker than most, and poured his heart into writing lyrics in his teen years and teaching himself to produce from his bedroom, influenced by the evolution of Mac Miller and the authenticity of Tyler, The Creator.
Following on from the artist’s sold-out 300 cap headline show in Dublin, previous singles ‘Shlumped Up’ and ‘Cozy’ have been greatly-received, with continued support from BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, ahead of his debut EP Elevator Music releasing at the beginning of July. The GoldenPlec pick and District: Future of Irish Music 2022 selected artist is also set to perform at a host of summer festivals including Forbidden Fruit, Longitude & Otherside. With his refreshingly playful style of storytelling paired with smooth, personality-packed vocals, KhakiKid is just getting started.
