UK concert, festival and arts promoter FORM are delighted to release the second single from their special new music programme: FutureFORM – an Arts Council supported initiative that seeks to help support and invest in musicians and the wider industry in new, creative ways while also shining a light on vital new developing talent. Next up in the series is London-based polymath Joviale, whose new single ‘UW4GM’ has a gently psychedelic air reminiscent of Person Pitch-era Panda Bear. The magic of the song is found in the grey areas as the listener is left to decide whether Joviale is demanding or pleading with the listener to be remembered.

Joviale on ‘UW4GM’: “this song has been a part of leading my recovery from that long period of isolation during this ongoing pandemic. I finished it with my trusted colleague and friend Evan because I wanted to share something that could symbolise our kinship and camaraderie as we supported each other throughout the pandemic. This song came to me like a spell. It was my little light during last year’s lonely and everlasting winter lockdown. I worked on the song until the release of hurricane belle and I wanted to celebrate this milestone with what feels like the beginning of transformation.”
Joviale is a multidisciplinary artist from North London making otherworldly, immersive music that plays with “minimal textures, killer interjections and vocals that are equal parts restraint and rage.” (The Times) Looping these high vocals with heady, emotional chords, they weave a screen around the listener, pulling them into chaptered, strangely sweet variations of the artist.
Joviale belongs to a generation of artists with a strong sense of collaborative, interdisciplinary practice. The artist leans into this skill-sharing, research-led community, valuing project-based work that allows for the development of concepts related to visual and sound culture. In 2019, The Face described Joviale’s sound and aesthetic as “building the London artist a loyal fan base”, an effect that encompasses their involvement in the city’s music circuit; Joviale built a reputation for their live shows before releasing any official music. They have played support shows for artists that include Celeste, Zsela, Kae Tempest, Nilufer Yanya, Orlando Weeks, Kindness, and Westerman, as well as festivals such as Pitchfork Music Festival London & Paris and, in 2019, Joviale sold out their first headline show at Folklore, Hackney.
The first single to emerge from the project was from rising songwriter, artist and producer Sans Soucis who delivered a stunning cover of the James Blake single ‘Foot Forward’ which you can listen to here.FutureFORM was born during lockdown – as promoters FORM (the recently launched new organization from long-standing music organizations Rockfeedback and One Inch Badge) looked to create new opportunities for vital new artists. FutureFORM looks to enable musicians to create new work in one of London’s best new recording studios in tandem with the promotion of their headline performances, and supporting grass-roots London venue spaces, and the wider live music ecosystem.FutureFORM is also supporting the wider industry and the artists by commissioning special artwork for the music and shows, special artist photography, increased digital marketing to promote the artists online and additional technical staff for the artist’s performance.
FORM are London and Brighton based promoters, and work with artists such as Flume, Father John Misty, Akala, Glass Animals, Mahalia, Mø, Toro Y Moi, Celeste and many more. They also run UK festivals such as Pitchfork Festival London, Visions Festival and Mutations.FutureFORM is providing a platform for artistic development for four UK based developing artists from underrepresented sections of the music industry, specifically those who identify as women, trans, people of colour & LGBT+.
