Today, 4AD announce ‘You Can Never Hold Back Spring’, a day and night event held at Point Éphémère in Paris on 26 April, celebrating the incredible artistry of the 4AD roster past and present, as the label marks its 45th anniversary.

During the daytime, the Parisian arts centre will host a 4AD pop-up shop with one-off items and limited-edition vinyl, DJ sets from Dry Cleaning and 4AD staff, and a selection of related films. The evening, running from 7pm until late, will feature live performances from 4AD artist Maria Somerville and Bat Blood Pudding (the solo project from Tom Dowse of Dry Cleaning), plus spoken word from Florence Slaw of Dry Cleaning, with Paris-based DJ and NTS host pam sound tracking the evening. Helping to dream up the summer air, a special guest joins us to complete the bill.

4AD Presents 'You Can Never Hold Back Spring' at Point Éphémère, Paris on 26 April

Maria Somerville by Càit Fahey
Set to release her debut 4AD album this Spring, Galway-based NTS host Maria Somerville draws on folk forms alongside traditional Irish motifs, starry eyed pop, and hypnotic drones to create wholly original music that is borne of her roots in the West of Ireland.

Following her self-released 2019 debut album All My People, upcoming album Luster reintroduces Maria’s atmospheric dream pop signature – a spellbinding sound world of gusting ambient electronics, ethereal guitar strums, sparse percussion, and hushed lyrical vignettes – pushing it forward in both sound and spirit, whilst also being reminiscent of classic 4AD. Luster is out on 25 April – for more information head HERE.

Florence Shaw
Florence Shaw is best known as the frontperson of Dry Cleaning. A visual artist, writer and performer, at ‘You Can Never Hold Back Spring’, Shaw presents her spoken word work as a solo performance.
Bat Blood Pudding
Bat Blood Pudding is the side project of South London band Dry Cleaning’s Tom Dowse. In this project, Dowse weaves finger-picked guitar in the vein of Karen Dalton and John Fahey, through his sweeping vocals bringing to mind contemporaries like Richard Dawson and Mount Eerie/The Microphones. His songs are a cosmology of folklore and personal myth that conjure a sense of place both real and imagined. Augmented by soundscapes sculpted using tape loops and field recordings, Bat Blood Pudding seeks to bring to life a world of its own.
pam
pamhost of the Early Bird Show on NTS, has been broadcasting on the London station since 2016, running the Okonkole Y Trompa show, alongside the cult music blog of the same name. He organises the Raguénès parties in Paris and is involved in music-related projects Office PSR and Fondation Petya Sasser Rike. He is known for his extended and unpredictable DJ sets and the versatility of his approach to DJing.
