50 Foot Wave – ‘With Love From The Men’s Room’
50 Foot Wave return with, once again a novel way of releasing their music. New EP ‘With Love From The Men’s Room’ is being made available on the bands Cash Music site.
One track a month as a free download. Hardly surprising from a group who have put their entire back catalogue up for free on the same site, and front woman Kristin Hersh (from alt-rock stalwarts Throwing Muses) released her latest solo album Crooked as a book.
At the time of writing there are two tracks available ‘Grey’ and ‘Radiant Addict’
‘Grey’ starts slow and melodic before picking up pace. There is a real urgency to the pummelling drums and driving guitar, with Kristin practically spitting out the lyrics fast and furious. Her vocals gnarled and brutal, brittle and brilliant. ‘Radiant Addict’ erupts with feedback and distortion before settling into choppy bass and pounding drums, the searing guitar Snaking around the relentless rhythm section. As ever the band sound taut and raw and LOUD.
Watch ‘Grey’
Producer Mudrock certainly seems to get the best out of the trio. With ‘Love From The Men’s Room’ appears to be a reaction to 50 Foot Waves last EP ‘Power&Light’ (a 25 minute song in several movements) ‘Grey’ and ‘Radiant Addict’ are frenetic aural assaults that flare up and burn out before the 3 minute mark but are no less powerful for it. 8.5/10
