77- Maximum Rock “n” Roll (Our 20.11.13 via Listenable Records)
I like my break downs, my pig squeals and my super heavy riffs but the one thing that got me into that was from listening to straight up rock music. I remember the first time I heard the album High Voltage by AC/DC after stealing it from my Dads CD collection only to be blown away and to find myself in love with guitar music.
77 are a Spanish rock and roll outfit who have ditched the cliché mariachi styled music for something with more attitude, swagger and sex. Influenced by the great rock and roll bands of times gone by 77 are driven by blues and hard rock.
Just after the millennium there was a revival of garage rock with bands like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Datsuns and The Tokyo Dragons but this was short lived whilst leaving a significant mark on the scene. It is with high hopes that 77 can make a similar impact with a longer lasting effect.
Songs such as “Down and Dirty” along with “Stay Away From Water” brings to the speakers a certain something that is currently lacking in music and that thing is attitude. You can be the best band in the world, with the highest quality musicians but if you don’t have that attitude then to me you’re nothing. I want something I can nod my head to and drink my beer to whilst in a sweaty crowd.
If you like bands like The Answer, AC/DC, The Datsuns and Credence Clearwater Revival then get yourself on to the powerhouse that is 77. 7.8/10
