Opening with the warning that “No muscles were harmed during the flexing in this video”, 808INK perform the track with ultimate finesse; complete with money guns, a vintage car and dancers – Mumblez and Charmer welcome the viewer into a neon tinged world. Bright, brash and boisterous, 808INK set a new standard for UK rap, riding the line between bold braggadocio raps and crossover-friendly hooks, set to vivid visuals.
‘Come Down’ employs 808INK’s signature instrumental bounce, complete with glazed synth beds, full-bodied kicks and funk laden melodic flourishes. Lyrically, the duo flow with confidence over ‘Come Down’’s unconventional beat. Mumblez’s hard-edged yet melodically savvy rhymes provide the perfect rhythmic flow to Charmer’s irresistible hook, weaving in between throwback chord stabs reminiscent of 90’s house music.
808INK’s recently released ‘When I’m About, You’ll Know’ EP is a huge sonic leap forward for the collective. Mastering the duality between their unforgettable melodics and ferocious intensity, 808INK have created the crossover record they have always threatened to; a body of work that’s just as impactful transmitting from radios around the world as it is thumping from car stereos and club soundsystems. With the collection already causing shockwaves throughout the scene and a host of UK and European dates on the horizon, 2018 is the year 808INK make an indelible mark on these shores and beyond.
To celebrate the release of ‘When I’m About, You’ll Know’, 808INK will play a special one-off headline show at London’s Omeara venue on Friday 16th of March.
