Benedict Benjamin Streams Thin Skin

New single taken from the album ‘Night Songs’

out March 125th on Sugarcoat Records

“An introverted yet inviting experience, words tumble forth in a manner that is
both wry and deeply analytical.” – CLASH

Benedict Benjamin is the new project from Ben Rubinstein formerly of critically acclaimed UK indie-folk acts The Mariner’s Children and Peggy Sue (Wichita). A singer/songwriter versed in the classical traditions of the form, he is capable of crafting both operatic crescendo and lullaby-like stillness shot through with the heartbreaking swoon of Roy Orbison, the soothing harmonies of the Everly Brothers and the honesty of Jeff Tweedy. His brittle heartworn and beautifully delicate compositions are sung with a wonderfully pure vocal style to match; a dreamy concoction of folk, 60s pop and rock with occasional psychedelic flourishes and enough reverb to send you spinning in to the most dense of daydreams.
‘Thin Skin’, the first track to be taken from his debut solo long player ‘Night Songs’, undercuts it’s Tom Petty influenced garage rock with introspective lyrics that are both frank and poetic, treading a similar path to Kurt Vile, Kevin Morby and The War on Drugs.
“It’s specifically about me being a sensitive person that really appreciates and values honesty but who isn’t always able to muster a civilised response to the hearing of it. The song’s sort of an apology to those who’ve pointed out truths to me who I’ve made feel unwelcome”
His debut album, ‘Night Songs’, released 25th March 2016 on Sugarcoat Records, is a collection of timeless songs recorded in a series of churches, bedrooms and kitchens across London and Kent with UK-based musician and producer Dan Blackett (Landshapes, Bella Union).
