Crystal Soda Cream – Rationale Arbeitsschritte 7" (KIM Records)

The first release of the year thus far by Viennese Post-Punk band Crystal Soda Stream is in the form of a new 7”/Digital single ‘Rationale Arbeitsschritte’ backed with ‘Eyeline Statues’ intial listening bodes well for their second studio-album ‘Work and Velocity’ due April 2016 via Totally Wired Records. ‘Rationale Arbeitsschritte’ is the album’s first single. It will be released as a 7“ on KIM Records.

The lead track sounds simple at first, but the skill in the fractured alternative single is in the other world vocals coupled with accompanying  guitar refrains, serves well as an effective single. On the flip side ‘Eyeline Statues’ is no slouch either, more expansive, clocking in at over 5 minutes.

You like alternatives? minimal earlier days of The Cure, say of the ‘Charlotte Sometimes’ era, more in terms of the production, possible intent and guitar musings, also on reflection Crystal Soda Stream sound cold, but if that’s possible, in a good way. An effective empowered e release. 7.8/10
