Beowulf: Return To The Shieldlands Music From The Original Soundtrack

About the music
Recorded with the Budapest Film Orchestra and Choir, Rob Lane’s cinematic score for Beowulf befits the epic scope of the television series. In addition to utilising large forces for a sound more akin to Hollywood blockbusters, the score for Beowulf also reflects the mythical and ancient nature of the series with an impressive collection of ancient instruments. Bronze age horns, Celtic Bodhrán drums, psalteries, harmonic flutes, and even an ice horn give the score a fantastical colour, fully enhanced by the use of overtone singing.

About the composer
One of the most versatile and sought-after composers working today, Rob is a multi-award winning composer with a huge array of credits across many genres. A BAFTA winner for his score for Channel 4’s Elizabeth starring Helen Mirren, he has also received 3 Ivor Novello awards, 3 RTS awards and 4 EMMY nominations for scores as diverse as John Adams, Blackpool, Jane Eyre, Longford, Daniel Deronda, Charles II and The Last Weekend.

Rob’s remarkable ear for a memorable melody has long been a key part of his output and has graced many a period drama, from Love In A Cold Climate and Tess Of The D’Urbervilles through to ITV’s Arthur and George (starring Martin Clunes) and BBC’s recent World War One drama The Crimson Field. A suite from his much loved music for Merlin was performed in the 2012 BBC Proms In The Park season and his main theme from HBO’s epic mini-series John Adams starring Paul Giamatti has been much performed in the US.
