Corbu – ‘Battles’

Must declare from the start if this review that, as I liked Crooked Colours last release, I  would be a good bet to favour Corbu. Not too far from the mark, as a god few are now case friendly with the New York based neo-psych band, also thanks to in part to Zane Lowe with new single ‘Battles’ from their forthcoming debut album ‘Crayon Soul’ due August 5th 2016. although I will not go as far as Lowe, there is an air of worth surrounding band.

‘Crayon Soul’ follows two mostly online acclaimed EPs, ‘We Are Sound’ and ‘Everything You Imagine Is Real’, which garnered praise from the likes of NYLON, Stereogum, The Guardian, NME and more, as well as capturing the attention of Jessie Ware, who personally requested the band to remix her song ‘You & I (Forever)’.

Much of Corbu’s music is inspired by “the fuzzy, transient experience of memories and dreams, which bleeds into the colourful, psychedelic artwork that frontman Jonathan Graves creates.” With ‘Battles in fine style, while I am not the strongest fan of indie synth-pop, for irrational occasional view, that the software is doing much of the work, there are exceptions within the more DAWs populated scene, there are memorable exceptions.

While Corbu promise much form upcoming debut and with ‘Battles’ and as a supporter of their present course, I still feel slightly comprised, am I that predictable? A concern only eased by quality of the new single. 7.7/10
