FURTHER DETAILS ABOUT FRIDAY ARTISTS:
XYLOURIS WHITE – http://www.xylouriswhite.com/
Jim White has commanded international attention for more than two decades as part of Australia’s Dirty Three, storm’s-eye instrumental diviners whose emotionally choppy soundscapes brim with elemental force. Now New York-based, White is often found collaborating with alt-A-listers (including: Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, PJ Harvey, Nina Nastasia, Cat Power and Smog,) where his playing redeploys the rolling momentum of free-jazz to supple ends, from sensitive to seismic. One of Crete’s best-loved artists, Xylouris is a scion of Greek musical royalty, a family from a mountain village near the Cave of Zeus. His father is revered singer / lyra player Psarandonis. A child when he began playing the lute, Xylouris would accompany his father in a backing role.
SEX SWING – https://sexswing.bandcamp.com/releases
Comprising members of implicitly trusted yet sonically nefarious outfits Mugstar, Part Chimp, Dethscalator, Earth & Dead Neanderthals. Notoriously great on stage, John Doran enthuses… “Dan Chandler isn’t roaring like a minotaur who’s just stepped on an upturned plug with bare feet, he’s actually singing, and he sounds a little bit like Ian Curtis. Jase Stoll (Mugstar) adds chunky guitar, while Tim Cedar (Part Chimp) plays a mean Alan Vega style organ and Colin Webster is on a giant saxophone, itchily skronking away somewhere between Fela Kuti and Colin Stetson. I mean, I don’t want to jinx it or anything but they might actually be superb…”
MOTHWASP – http://www.mothwasp.com/
Mothwasp descend from the long line of leather-and-denim clad noise-mongers that post-industrial Birmingham is so fond of producing, yet remain the Midlands’ “least tattooed rock band”. Combining the brute force of drums and guitar, experimental film soundtrack techniques and audio-responsive video experiments derived from defunct analogue projection apparatus, the duo sculpt movies for the ears and soundtracks for the eyes.
FURTHER DETAILS ABOUT SATURDAY ARTISTS:
GIANT SWAN – https://soundcloud.com/thequietus/giant-swan-bring-back-fives-video-version
Giant Swan are an embryonic, shapeshifting duo who press repeat and take aim at the sun. Grabbing the necessary sounds from guitars, pedals and their own throats, Robin Stewart and Harry Wright coax raw-hearted live experiences that are constantly shifting in their stillness, bleeding between several sonic movements that both obliterate and invigorate and find them drifting away, serene and discordant, from the noise-techno bevy.
RATTLE – https://rattleon.bandcamp.com/
Rattle focus almost exclusively on drums and more drums, beneath a delicate overlay of vocal harmonies and percussive effects. Formed by Katharine Eira Brown (also of Kogumaza) and Theresa Wrigley (also of Fists), Rattle began as an experiment in crafting rich songs and melody using rhythm and voice alone. Their music weaves and intertwines post-punk, minimalism and experimental rock, through off-kilter patterns and counter melodies. Their audience-entrancing live performances are at once hypnotic, monastic and danceable.
KURO – https://soundcloud.com/rocket-recordings/04-incantation-in-c/
The band feature the amplified talents of French violinist Agathe Max and bassist Gareth Turner, their album is soon to be released on Rocket Recordings. “At times her work approaches the supersonic escape velocity of Tony Conrad; elsewhere, she introduces delicate repeating threads, then slowly weaves them into a fabric of vast, billowing sound more reminiscent of Steve Reich. With an elegant command of melody and a strident use of rhythm, Max manages to create a remarkably accessible collection of tracks, one that bridges the gaps between minimalism, post-classicism, the avant garde, krautrock, and plain old-fashioned pop.” – Boomkat review.
BISMUTH – https://bismuthslow.bandcamp.com/
Hypnotic two piece, the Nottingham based sludge unit Bismuth will crush you with there sprawls of sludge and drone, whilst dragging you back and forth into there woozy harmonies and deathly growls with riffs and caveman beats that are heavy and distorted. Slow, primordial doom like The Body, Khanate, Corrupted.
RAINBOW GRAVE – https://soundcloud.com/rainbow-grave
Low Rent Caveman Hate Music, featuring members of Napalm Death, Scorn, Sore Throat and Doom. Slow lethargic noiserock for miserable times, they bleed all joy from their riffs and take it from there, replacing the punchy aggression of their heralded previous bands with a flood of feedback-ridden spite. Gruelling, gravelly, gruesome, gripping.
STINKY WIZZLETEAT – https://stinkywizzleteat.bandcamp.com/
Formed some time in 2008, Stinky Wizzleteat have garnered some sort of a reputation, leaving a trail of blood, sweat and broken amplifiers behind them. United by a mutual love of the Bad Brains, Wizzleteat carve out a sound informed by groove from across the musical spectrum, whilst staying fully committed to heaviness, good times and volume.
