Cincinnati based band The Yugos will release their album Weighing the Heart on March 10th via Old Flame Records. CRAVE just premiered the album’s title track, saying “their retro dream pop sound brings to mind early XTC or the best of Psychedelic Furs in a way that sounds ‘inspired by’ rather than simply ‘copied.'”

The Yugos (Christian Gough, Jordin Goff, Jackson Deal and Jeremy Graham) use ’70s Punk and New Wave as a springboard to launch into the mosh pit of its own unique creative process. Weighing the Heart follows their self-titled debut, 2013’s extraordinary Life is Awesome and Then You Live Forever, and the 2014 single “Follow You.” The band deftly weaves the stuttering time signatures of early XTC and Talking Heads into the dark pop ruminations of The Cure and Psychedelic Furs, and finally filter it all through the band’s own contemporary musical/cultural perspectives until it is recognizable only as The Yugos.
“The name, same as the album title, comes from the Ancient Eygptian Book of the dead,” the band told CRAVE. “After you died the weighing of the heart would determine your afterlife. This song was originally created using a loop pedal. Like most of the songs from the record this song is about love, being young, and trying to understand your feelings. This is the first time we have ever had a ‘title track’. This song seemed to be the best track to represent the record and our new sound and voice as a band. ”
IMPOSE Magazine recently premiered their track “Ingenue,” saying “The Yugos have a formula that is beautiful and mystifying.” CityBeat premiered the band’s track “Steve French,” saying “after a couple of listens, the song is going to be stuck in your head all day and your anticipation for the new album may turn into an obsession.”
