FROZEN BY SIGHT OUT THIS WEEK; NINE-PIECE BAND LIVE SHOWS IN DECEMBER
Paul Smith (Maxïmo Park) & Peter Brewis (Field Music) have today shared the the first video from their collaborative LP Frozen By Sight. The film for ‘L.A. Street Cleaner’ was created by Chris Bate and features reflections of light on water shot on 16mm film.
Paul Smith on ‘LA. Street Cleaner’: “Peter’s music brings an odd tension to the words on this song. There’s a lightness to the plucked strings that made me think of the bleached-out sunlight of L.A. and I tried to pick phrases to match that. Once again, a sense of strangeness that might only occur to a non-native pervades the
lyric. I hadn’t noticed how hairy palm trees are! In the US, the pavements are massive!

Paul Smith & Peter Brewis recently announced three performances of Frozen By Sight. The live band is augmented by David Brewis (drums and vocals), John Pope (acoustic bass), Andrew Lowther (tuned percussion) and will feature a string quartet of Ed Cross (Violin), Josephine Montgomery (violin), Chrissie Slater (viola) and Ele Leckie (cello).

20 December – Sage, Gateshead TICKETS
Based around text from Smith’s travel writing, and Brewis’ chamber-band arrangements, Frozen By Sight evolved from a commission for the performance of a new musical work at the Festival Of The North East (at Sage Gateshead in late 2013). These December shows will be the first performances since that inaugural show.
