Belle Game – ‘Bring Me’ (Arts & Crafts)

Vancouver’s Belle Game have a good track record recent ‘Spirit’ now followed by their new single ‘Bring Me’ already earning positive reviews BlackBook describes the track as “spine-chilling” and “a thrilling anthem of self-possession and emotional fearlessness.” Point taken, they just haven’t meet many muso’s, like a drummer, even a wandering percussionist, a box player even, instead a monocyclic beat. The reason I shift a little more uncomfortably, Canada doesn’t normally lead you too astray, I am fully aware that Belle Game’s fully deserved standing, they’re a talented band and, dextrous song-writers; As ‘Bring Me’ demonstrates with strong vocals, the song just cries of the too commercial to me.

Produced by Dave Hamelin (The Stills) and executive producer Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene), new album ‘Fear/Nothing’ is filled with lush compositions led by the powerful and truly hypnotic vocals of Andrea Lo with backing vocals from Kevin Drew. The 10-track collection follows the band’s debut album Ritual Tradition Habit which earned critical praise from the likes of Rolling Stone and Pitchfork.

‘Bing Me’ is a solid single that will do well, I’m just not convinced as of now though. 7.4/10
