NJ's Lowlight Touring with The Pretenders, Announce EP (Stream First Single Now)

Stream + Share “Can’t Stop Now”

Deemed the hardest working band in Jersey last year, indie-rock quintet Lowlight is aiming to best themselves in 2018, with a jam-packed spring season in the works. The band will be joining rock legends The Pretenders for a quick jaunt up the east coast, just in the time for the release of their upcoming EP Born to Run.

Born to Run borrows its name from the ultimate Jersey icon, but the vocal delivery and storytelling call another legend to mind – Stevie Nicks. The larger-than-life influences and classic homages make it clear why Chrissie Hynde handpicked the band herself to open for The Pretenders. Born to Run will be released March 30 via Cargo Records, and in the meantime, the EP is available for preorder via iTunes and comes with an instant download of anthemic first single “Can’t Stop Now.This is just the beginning…stay tuned for more from Lowlight!

MORE ON LOWLIGHT:

Lowlight is a synth-drenched indie band at the forefront of one of America’s most resurgent music scenes. Called “The hardest working and most fiercely loyal band in NJ,” Lowlight is a self-produced machine, thriving in the musical renaissance of Asbury Park and New Brunswick, New Jersey respectively.

Although Renee Maskin (Vocals) and Derril Sellers (Guitar) were acquaintances and college classmates, their musical paths didn’t cross until years later when mutual friend and rock photographer, Mike Petzinger, brought Renee to Derril’s studio to record a solo album. Those sessions, which included Colin Ryan on percussion and Dana Sellers on keyboards, and the later addition of Rey Rivera on bass, formed the basis of the musical collaboration that became the distinctively modern-americana backbone of Lowlight.

Fans of Sharon Van Etten, The National, and Timber Timbre will find a familiar mix of rock, americana, and synth-pop that focuses on songcraft. Having released their first full-length album Where Do We Go From Here in 2016 Lowlight are poised to release their follow-up, Born to Run. The music is a leap forward in maturity and depth for the band. The country overtones present on their debut LP have taken a backseat to synth pads and thumping, rhythmic bass lines. The EP consists of three approachable, though somewhat dark songs, and ends with an epic instrumental studio creation that winds and bends as it progresses.

BORN TO RUN EP Tracklist:

1.     Sleep Wounds
2.     Can’t Stop Now
3.     Nights & Weekends
4.     Birdman’s Last Ride
