HONNE are back today with two brand new tracks, Day 1 ◑ / Sometimes ◐, which are available now on Tatemae Recordings/Atlantic Records. An intimate London show was also confirmed this week for Village Underground on May 8th (and sold out in under ten minutes), in addition to early festivals including Citadel on July 15th.
Day 1 ◑ and Sometimes ◐ are an intriguing, irresistibly infectious return from HONNE. With its assured blend of soul, R&B and courteous romance, Day 1 ◑ is – say the band – “fundamentally about loyalty and being with someone right from the beginning”: it’s the sound of a duo pushing their idiosyncratic sound forward into more confident, beat-driven territory whilst retaining a back-to-basics precision. Sometimes ◐, however, reveals a darker, more self-critical side to HONNE, reflecting on all the things you often take for granted in a relationship. Both tracks take you full circle and – much like the tight-knit relationship of Andy & James themselves – arguably are designed to work best when together.
The last year or so has seen HONNE hunker down on their forthcoming second album, the follow-up to the acclaimed ‘Warm On A Cold Night’. That rare band to have amassed a truly global audience, HONNE’s sometimes-awkward, always-positive portraits of twenty-first century romance, masculinity, and modern city living are now approaching 500 million streams. Along the way, they have sold out sizable venues across Europe (including London’s Roundhouse), Asia (the album went triple-platinum in Korea) and the US, with their new material suggesting a songs which look set to travel further still in the year ahead. Watch this – ◑– space.
