Bristol three-piece WOAHNOWS have announced their much-anticipated sophomore album Young And Cool, to be released on Bristol-based label Specialist Subject in February. After the success of their debut LP Understanding and Everything Else and touring with the likes of Ratboys, Gnarwolves and Lemuria, the three-piece are back with their first new material in three years.
The announcement comes with first single, ‘Dipping Out’ – a song about self doubt and feeling anxious around the ones you love. “It’s going out for another cig that’ll just make you feel sick, which is at times strangely preferable to staying in a place, talking,” frontperson Tim Rowing-Parker says of the track. “I don’t want to let down the people who think highly of me, I worry those who like me will cease to do so. That I’m less fun now I’m more sober. For some reason, going out to smoke is more acceptable than standing outside alone.”

Consisting of Rowing-Parker on vocals and guitar, Phillip J Randall on bass and vocals and Adam Wherly on drums, WOAHNOWS make power pop for the awkward and the outcasts.Young And Cool is a collection of soulful pop jams with a punk heart. It takes its energy from the likes of The dB’s, The Exploding Hearts and The Nerves but flips the stereotypical, heteronormative narrative of the power pop genre into anthems for the queer, poly people of the world. It’s an album that helps to alleviate the worry of fitting in.
