Westerman’s cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘Kathy’s Song’ gets a new mix and video treatment

Westerman’s live session-visual for Simon & Garfunkel’s classic ‘Kathy’s Song’ plays on themes of memory, rain and solitude in a lush three-tone palette.
Originally released last month alongside the announcement of Nathan Jenkins’ (Bullion) 4th compilation album ‘4 Down’, the cover has a pared-down arrangement reflective of its Cieron Magatdirected visual.
Coming out through Bullion’s own DEEK Recordings, news of the release was covered at FACT, Pitchfork, Stereogum, Clash, The Random Note, Resident Advisor, SPIN and more, the latter calling it “lush and sophisticated rhythmic pop, bringing out the jazzy curlicues in Simon’s melody and setting it against a lush bed of synths”. Westerman’s intimate new ‘Kathy’s Song’ video depicts a live vocal take over an alternate mix of the song.
Staying true to the “pop, not slop!” ethos of the label, ‘4 Down’ brings together a community of adventurous artists attempting to solve the riddles of pop music one song at a time. Born out of Bullion’s work as a producer and a growing list of collaborations, the idea behind the series was sparked by the common desire to sing a song you wish you’d written.
Nathan’s move to Lisbon and a meeting with Portuguese artist Bráulio Amado (cover art) inspired this new set of covers. Clues of what to expect can be found on previous editions Covered In Gloria, Pun For Cover and Extraordinary Renditions.
