‘4 Down’ is lucky number four in a series of cover albums on Nathan Jenkins’ (Bullion) DEEK label is out today.
Describing the compilations, Nathan suggests “recording a cover can turn an otherwise awkward studio situation into a naff joy!” His move to Lisbon – recording several of the songs in an old house there which is now underwater – and meeting with Portuguese artist Bráulio Amado who designed the sleeve, has been central to the project. Mazzy Star, Bill Withers, Elliott Smith and other familiars are transformed by Westerman, M. T.
Hadley, DEEK-regulars Nautic and rising artist Joviale. Describing the run of compilations, Nathan comments “covers are joyful, fun, often a bit naff and not to be taken too seriously!”.The album has been supported by Pitchfork, Crack, Fact, RA and follows previous editions ‘Covered In Gloria’, ‘Pun For Cover’ and ‘Extraordinary Renditions’.
