‘Coulourmeinkindness’ is the second LP from British Indie band Basement and will be released on 23rd October via Run For Cover Records. It is currently streaming on the Rock Sound website and is available to buy from Bandcamp for $5 (just over £3 depending on currency rates). The LP was produced by Sam Pura at Panda Studios in Northern California. Now I really would advise you to get your hands on this LP as after their last few shows later this year the band will be on an indefinite hiatus making this their last release which will be a huge shame given just how talented this band are. The band had this to say about their decision:

“Now ‘Colourmeinkindness’ is finished, we head out to play a string of shows across America. Due to a number of personal commitments, this record and these shows will be the last thing we do as a band for a very long time. Basement has never been about achieving anything; it was simply an enjoyable outlet for creativity and emotion. That being said, we are incredibly grateful for the support we have received over the last two years. We have managed to do some amazing things and see some incredible places and the people we have met along the way will be our friends forever. We seriously cannot express sufficiently how much this means to us. We all have things going on outside of the band that require a lot of time and attention and now more than ever these things have to come first.”

From the thunderous opening track ‘Whole’ to the epic final chords of ‘Wish’ this is a creation of breath-taking scope and vision. ‘Covert’ is an angst fuelled grunge song while ‘Spoiled’ ups the pace with its rock vocals and furious drums. Slowing things down is the song ‘Breath’ which in a complete contrast to the other songs on the LP is a much more heartfelt and considered song. My favourite, difficult to choose I might add, is ‘Black’ which is as dark and seductive song filled with anger and powerful dramatic guitars. This band are deep versatile and utterly fantastic and will be a real loss, I just hope this hiatus isn’t as indefinite as they say it is. As swan songs go ‘Colourmeinkindness’ has to be among the best. 8.5/10
