The Golden Dregs – Just Another Rock
“A mellow journey through the dark side of nightlife” – The Line Of Best Fit“Minimalist guitar pop hewn from the notepad of Lou Reed, Jonathan Richman, or Robyn Hitchcock” – Clash“Stirs with a lonesome soul and sense of mournful vulnerability that’ll give you chills” – The 405“Mellow storytelling at its finest” – So Young
Rich, eloquent storytelling has become an essential part of The Golden Dregs story, and latest release Just Another Rock, taken from sophomore album Hope Is For The Hopeless out 27th September, provides another stark example of his vivid capabilities.
Following on from 2018 debut LP Lafayette (released via Art Is Hard Records – previously home to Flamingods, Penelope Isles, The Orielles), the musical project of the baritoned and enigmatic Benjamin Woods has already earned favourable comparisons to the likes of Lou Reed, Tom Waits and Tindersticks, with his general sense of introspection and reflection expressed in recent singles Nobody Ever Got Rich and The Queen of Clubs, earning widespread acclaim in the process.
“The song itself is set in a sports bar in the town I grew up in”, Woods divulges. “Initially it resembled more of a folk song but somehow evolved with time and became a wonky dance track. It really set a vibe for this sort of lonely dystopian dance floor which I’ve tried to present in the video”.Currently based in South London, the project has been realised on stage through a range of guises, from one-man karaoke to a full band with a rotating cast of friends and musicians, elements of which will be on display in Woods’ album launch show in London on 27th September at SET Dalston.
The Golden Dregs’ Just Another Rock is out 9th August and will be available via all digital platforms. Pre-order The Golden Dregs’ new album Hope Is For The Hopeless released 27th September here. Live Dates (message for press passes)27 Sept – SET Dalston, London (tickets here)
