Westerman today shares the haunting minimalism of ‘I Turned Away’, the flip side to his recently acclaimed single ‘Confirmation’. London based artist Westerman has quickly garnered a growing audience through his penetrating lyrical explorations of timeless human vulnerabilities amidst the ephemera of contemporary living.

Having picked up Pitchfork’s ‘Best New Track’ with the aforementioned ‘Confirmation’ (a heavy meditation about the difficulties of infinite choice and the allure of impulsiveness), new track and flip side ‘I Turned Away’ presents Westerman in a starker, sobering landscape ‘I Turned Away’ is about mirages and was recorded in one take with the intention of retaining its rawness. It’s about the realisation that what you thought was there was never really there – just your own impressions. It’s a solitary cry at increased global hostility and the move back towards scapegoating and isolationism as we become more afraid.

Westerman’s collaboration with electronic producer Bullion across previous Call And Response EP gave us a record steeped in leftfield antecedents like Nick Drake, David Byrne and Arthur Russell. ‘Confirmation/I Turned Away’ sees his sound getting ever more refined into an ambient and textured minimalist project unafraid to take risks. He’s accrued champions in the form of Lauren Laverne, Gorilla Vs Bear, Noisey, Pitchfork, High Snobiety, Stereogum and DIY, with festivals rushing to book him this summer.

‘Confirmation/I Turned Away’ will be released via Blue Flowers, the label responsible for rising stars Nilüfer Yanya and Puma Blue. It precedes Westerman’s album which is slated for a 2019 release.‘Confirmation/I Turned Away’ is out now on Blue Flowers.
