Convince Me To Like This Band

“A podcast featuring ‘Super-Fans’ of polarizing bands”

Launches Today

Stream + Share “Slayer!: Episode One”

CONVINCE ME TO LIKE THIS BAND is a brand new music-commentary podcast that is launching its first episode today, Friday, January 17th, 2020 on all major streaming podcast platforms.

Is Slayer a disposable novelty act or are they the pinnacle of metal and rock musicianship? Is Phish a tedious and predictable hippy act or is their creativity and sense of humor vastly underappreciated? Is Morrissey a biggoted and self-absorbed whiner or is he the perennial and tender voice of forlorn, underground youth? Is Insane Clown Posse‘s music the vulgar joke that all of mainstream culture contends or is there actual artistry and validity in their songs? These are the questions the podcast will address in detail with special guests in Season One.

The program is created, produced and hosted by ERIC SPECK whose former music business endeavors includes, A&R at labels like Island Def Jam and Warner Music Group, label manager at Knitting Factory Records, talent buyer at Brownies (the legendary but defunct music venue in NYC), and owner of also defunct, indie rock record label, Ace Fu Records (home to PinbackMan ManDevotchkaTed Leo and more). Speck currently works at Pandora Media and is the co-host of the radio show Time To Be Useless, which streams on The Independent FM. He also is the co-owner of the music-centric, rock and roll bar, Pet Shop, in Jersey City, New Jersey, and he is the current talent buyer for Double Parked music festival.

Each episode of Convince Me To Like This Band will focus on a different musical artist or band, with the first four being as follows: Slayer, Phish, Morrissey and Insane Clown Posse. Season One will feature three more artists for a total of seven episodes, each released every four to six weeks. With every release, the listener will be front and center for a battle between a diehard fan and a hater, as they thoughtfully debate the music. The program will feature musical acts spanning all genres with the goal of discussing some of pop culture’s most polarizing musical artists over the past fifty years.

The guests who appear on the podcast are the most (in)famous and the most extreme music fans to be found, AKA “Super-Fans”. This includes fans like episode one’s guest, MIKE MEYER, who famously carved “Slayer” into his arms with a scalpel and then lit his arms on fire (all of which was officially captured in the album artwork for Slayer’s 1994 record, Divine Intervention). Conversely, the “Haters” on this podcast hold similar notariety, such as episode one’s Slayer-hating guest, BRAM TEITELMAN, who is a veteran music industry executive, rock journalist, musician, Napalm Records employee and co-founder of the authoritative Metal website, MetalInsider.Net. Other “guests” of note in future episodes include musicians and indie-celebrities such as, TIM HARRINGTON from the seminal indie rock band, Les Savy Fav, an accomplished artist and consummate contrarian.
