SOUNDS FROM THE OTHER CITY FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES COUNTDOWN TO SOUNDS
WEEK-LONG PROGRAMME OF ONLINE EVENTS STARTS TODAY
Sounds From The Other City is excited to share news of Countdown to Sounds: a week-long programme of online events to mark what would have been the sixteenth edition of the Salford festival this Saturday.
While the cancellation of this year’s event has been a blow, to commemorate what would have another fantastic party of community, new music, and art, SFTOC have invited friends of the festival and some of their favourite artists to take over their social media channels to bring some Sounds vibes to fans’ lockdown.
There will be performances, durational pieces, and even a SFTOC-themed quiz, all leading up to Saturday 2nd May, the day of what would have been Sounds from the Other City 2020. Creativity, caring, and unity have rarely been more important, and the festival is asking for fans’ help to ensure that once this crisis is over the short and medium term future of the festival can be guaranteed. Across this week of commemorations, they’ll be a crowdfunding campaign, with any and all donations being used to fund the people, ideas, and organisations that make the festival possible.
Since it became apparent that the event would not be possible this year, many people asked how they can help support. For fans who hadn’t already picked up their tickets for this year, the easiest way is to buy a Sounds from the Other City 2021 ticket. This comes with the option of adding an exclusive David Bailey-designed SFTOC crowdfunder t-shirt to make a bundle (shirt is also available separately for fans who have already rolled over their ticket for next year).All donations are gratefully accepted: if you’re only able to spare a tenner, they’ll make sure you get a commemorative SFTOC 2020 ticket, as well as a Sounds Town badge from the last sojourn on Chapel Street proper back in 2018. If you’re able to spare a little more, they’ve got a few wilder ideas that might be of interest: you can name a stage at SFTOC 2021 (good), go Go-Karting with friend of the festival Elizabeth Alker (great!), or spend a day in an escape room with enemies of SFTOC and self-proclaimed best band in the world Grotbags (oh god no).
Finally, EVERYONE is invited to get involved with #SFTOC20 on Saturday 2nd May. Dig out your best photos and memories… or if you don’t have any, just make them up!… and share on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for our collective enjoyment using the hashtag.
