Overhand Sam – These Days
Overhand Sam and Bad Weapon’s latest single “These Days” is the type of serene Psych Pop the world needs right now.
Atop a drunken mid tempo garage like bass groove, “Overhand” Sam Snyder riffs stream of consciousness day dreaming amidst pillowy strums and tougher drum sounds. The song takes a stately detour before lifting into a gorgeous keys melody that’s guaranteed to stick in your mind for weeks.
At the beginning of each decade pop culture tends to shed its skin preparing for the next generation. However, with what 2020 has been delivering, really any song with the title of “These Days” should be welcomed with open arms no matter what the context. America is seemingly doing more this time than simply updating its style of jeans; it’s possibly doing a long-overdue reinvention. It’s refreshing to have music like this as a reminder of transcendence. It’s not so much an escape from turmoil, but rather a zen moment caught with full awareness. 7.8/10
