“Love and Hate In A Different Time’ finds that perfect balance between rhythmic futurism and the human quality soul music can offer…Retro-futuristic in its appeal, the track feels utterly right for these times, driven forwards by a potent sense of purpose.” Clash Gabriels are an LA based group made up of singer Jacob Lusk and producers Ari Balouzian and Ryan Hope. ‘Love and Hate in a Different Time’ is their debut EP – out now. They shared the title track in October (check out the incredible video here) and more recently the EP’s focus track, ‘The Blind’ (here). If you’re new the world of Gabriels then ‘Love and Hate in a Different Time’ was a perfect introduction to their genre-bending aesthetic. Melding soulful funk with raw emotion derived from the truth of gospel, the bands captivating sound is brimming with intimacy and honesty which is impeccably delivered via the natural talent oozing from Jacobs voice. Combined with the impactful visuals that are so pivotal to their message, Gabriels become something very powerful indeed.
‘The Blind’ followed which offered a message of hope and ambition amongst a quagmire of inequality and global injustices that lead to individual despair. An incredibly timely song that once again has a moving video directed by band member Ryan Hope. To date, Gabriels have released ‘Loyalty’ (R&S Records), ‘In Loving Memory’, ‘Love and Hate in a Different Time’ and ‘The Blind’. Across the releases they have received support from the likes of Huw Stephens, Gilles Peterson, Virgil Abloh and Benji B. The ‘Love and Hate in a Different Time’ EP features all of the above tracks, plus ‘Professional’ which will have a stand-alone moment in the New Year alongside a video and the vinyl release of the EP. 2021 is looking increasingly promising already.
