For 2013: By The Rivers
For your listening pleasure, By The River hailed as reggae for a new generation.
For fans of New Town Kings, Only Joe, The Specials, Random Hand, The Beat
Not the first you may have head of the six-piece, recent times would have rewarded keen music fans, as the band have supported the likes of The Specials, Fun Lovin Criminals, Buzzcocks, Neville Staples, the list goes on. By The Rivers were formed in Leicester in the Spring of 2010 by Nile Barrow and Jordan Birtles. It was with a strong passion for the music, style and culture of reggae that they began to create their own sound – a unique blend of reggae, folk and world music infused with social commentary and positive messages. Inspired by the likes of Max Romeo, Twinkle, Peter Tosh and Bob Marley, their infectious and energetic grooves matched with their thought provoking lyrics, make this collective stand out so luminously in the contemporary British music scene.
Last year, the lads played Europe on a number of occasions, even managed a Germany tour supporting North American band the slackers. Fair, then, to say that By The Rivers have achieved lots since they formed back in 2010 which is true. It is more the fact that they will probably be playing at a music festival near you in 2013 and that goes for wider Europe too, 2013 already seems a busy year ahead for the band.
Find below the anthemic ‘Take Control’ which most could be familiar with and a new acoustic version of ‘Don’t Stand Alone’ which “reiterates the sentiment of the title track, soulfully expressing the need for our nation to unite in order to bring about change to a stagnated political system.” A new vide By The Rivers for ‘Take Control’ due January 8th, meanwhile…
