Rosie Lowe has today dropped a beautiful new video for her latest single, ‘Paris, Texas’. Directed by London-based duo NoCowboys and visually inspired by the Wim Wenders film from which the single also borrows its name, ‘Paris, Texas’ is taken from Rosie’s surprise new mixtape, ‘Now, You Know’, released in full earlier this month.

Says Rosie; “I wrote Paris, Texas about those moments when time stands still, like when you’re lost in your favourite movie scene so for the video I wanted to recreate the iconic booth scene from my favourite movie, Wim Wenders’ ‘Paris, Texas’, but put my own twist on it.”

Directors Jody Nolan and Betty Cutting, aka NoCowboys, added; “the video explores the ebbs and flows of intimacy; examining the relationship of ultimate familiarity [the one Rosie has with herself]. In an ode to the movie that inspired the song, we wanted to take the viewers on an intimate, sensitive journey through varying degrees of Rosie’s different sides [how they are inhabited and expressed] through surrealism and our photographic style.”

Reflecting on the single itself Rosie writes: “Paris Texas’ is about escapism and wanting to stay in those dream-like moments that you know are inevitably going to end, so you feel like you have to hold your breath to stop time; as soon as you move, the spell is broken and life will continue. I feel that lockdown was like that in many ways; I enjoyed the slower pace of life and as much as I missed so many elements of life previously, I also didn’t want it to end. I didn’t want to get back on the running machine.”

‘Now, You Know’ emerged during a period of evolution for Rosie Lowe. Forced, like many, to cancel her plans as the pandemic hit last Spring, Rosie retreated to a cabin in the Devon woods, converting a tiny shed into a studio to write in isolation. What emerged from those sessions was a playful, experimental, collection of songs – sparse, warped-vocal meditations ‘Freedom’ and ‘Say The Name’ juxtaposed with the groove-laden ‘I’ve Got You’ and ‘Would You Stay?’ and straightforward lyrical exorcisms on ‘No Idea’ or ‘Good Guy’. Here, Rosie’s production takes centre-stage, alongside contributions from Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief, Nick Hakim), Tom Henry (Gotts Street Park), AVI (Eska, Arlo Parks) and Tom Driessler (Yussuf Kamaal, Jordan Rakei) as well as a host of other new collaborators.

The result is Rosie Lowe’s most raw and unfiltered release to date, DIY by design and purposely undone at the seams, ‘Now, You Know’ is a mantra to encapsulate a new era of creative expression for an artist who continues to forge a singular path ahead of her highly anticipated third album.

‘Paris Texas’ is the first new solo material since Rosie Lowe’s much-loved second album, ‘YU’, which saw her named one of 6Music’s most played artists of 2019 and appear everywhere from COLORs to tours with Hot Chip, Jungle and Shura. Today Lowe has also announced her signing with London independent label Blue Flowers on ‘Now, You Know’ (and her forthcoming third studio album) whose roster also includes Puma Blue and Gotts Street Park with previous releases from Nilufer Yanya and Westerman.
